Aurora Black is originated in Okayama. The characteristic of Aurora Black is its deep purple colour that can be almost black, covered with a natural powdery film that protects the grapes from fermenting and moisture loss.
Aurora Black is famous with its large fruit size and rich flavour compare to Kyoho and Pione. It is a slip-skin variety, allowing the skin to be easily separated from flesh without damage despite the skin is edible. Underneath the surface, the flesh is aqueous, soft, and tender with a translucent green hue. Its high sugar content and wine-like flavour, has made it one of the most popular varieties in Japan.
